The Marist women's basketball team picked up a 68-58 win over the University of San Francisco tonight in its first game of the west coast road trip. The Red Foxes shot a sizzling 60% from three-point range, including Kristin Keller going 3-3 from behind the arc en route to a career high 23 points along with five assists and four steals.
After going down 7-0 in the first four minutes of the game, Stephanie Youdath drained two free-throws to put the Red Foxes on the board. Keller netted her first trey of the night followed by a Youdath bucket to tie the game at 7-7. The two teams traded baskets, with Marist going up 16-13 off a Megan Vetter three. Dominique Carter would later pull the Dons ahead 27-25 with two minutes left in the half. Vetter drained another three to put Marist up 28-27 and a pair of Toni Russell free-throws gave the Dons the 29-28 lead at the break.
Fifi Camara scored nine straight points to open up the first half for the Foxes, capped off by a Keller trey to put Marist up 40-35 in the first five minutes. Marist would never relinquish that lead for the rest of the game. The Red Foxes kept the pressure on throughout the half, with Vetter draining a two before a Nikki Flores steal and trey with under 7:00 in the game. The Dons were forced to foul late in the game and Marist went 11-13 from the charity stripe to seal the win.
Vetter finished the day with 10 points and three assists while Camara chipped in 10 points and four boards. Youdath had eight points for the Foxes and classmate Alexis Waters had another solid night with five points and four assists.
The Red Foxes will be in action again on Thursday Dec. 30 when they take on the Gaels of St. Mary's College at 10:00 p.m. (EST).
