PITTSBURGH, PA - The Marist women's swimming and diving team is in first place after the first day of competition at the ECAC Championships hosted by the University of Pittsburgh.
On day one the women accomplished something that had never been done in school history, as they won the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Jackie Fountaine (Pawling, N.Y.), Karen Fleckenstein (Port Jefferson, N.Y.), Lauren Malski (Trumbull, Conn.) and Kimberly Koehler (Narragansett, R.I.) bested the field by posting a time of 1:38.76.
Other strong performances were turned in by Jamie Falco (North Haven, Conn.) and freshman Savannah Puca (Huntington, N.Y.) who went four, five in the 200-yard individual medley.
In diving, Marist took second through fourth in the three-meter event. Senior Meghan Duffy, the 2006 MAAC Women's Diver of the Year, took second with a score of 264.90. She was followed by teammates Melissa Mangona (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Anna Sanner (Somerset, Pa.), who posted scores of 235.80 and 224.55, respectively.
The Red Foxes will be back in the pool Saturday morning as they look to maintain their lead through day two.
