BETHLEHEM, PA - The Marist Men's Lacrosse team opened the 2006 campaign with a 9-1 loss at Lehigh (1-1) on Saturday afternoon. Andrew Walsh (Liverpool, N.Y.) tallied the lone goal for the Red Foxes, who fall to 0-1 on the season.
Walshed picked up his first tally of the year, as he was assisted by captain Bill Duerr (Manasquan, N.J.). Duerr entered the 2006 season ranked number 10 on Marist's career list in both points and assists.
The Red Foxes were outshot on the afternoon by Lehigh 33-16. Marist did pick up more groundballs, 23-22, then the Montain Hawks. However, Lehigh featured a balanced scoring attack which saw it have five players record multiple points. Lehigh was led by Stephen Marino who recorded a goal and two helpers and Alec Hoof who posted two goals and an assist.
Marist goalie Ryan Penner (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) made 12 saves in his collegiate debut for the Red Foxes.
Marist will be back in action on March 11 when it travels to Indianapolis to face off with Butler. Game time on the 11th is scheduled for 3 p.m.
