Keith Detelj Named Men's Soccer Assistant Coach

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist men's soccer head coach Matt Viggiano has announced the addition of Keith Detelj to his coaching staff for the 2016 season.

Detelj brings six years of college coaching experience into his new position. He played for the Wayne Fever, West Chester Flames and Long Island Rough Riders in the U.S. Premier Development League before signing with the Dayton Dutch Lions, a professional club in the United Soccer League, for two seasons.

A striker for the Red Foxes from 2003-06, Detelj holds the program's records for goals (36) and points (89) since it began Division I play in 1981. He led Marist to its first two NCAA Tournament appearances in 2004 and 2005 and was selected Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player in both of those seasons. He earned First Team All-MAAC honors as a sophomore and junior. He earned All-MAAC honors all four years of his career, as he was named Second Team All-MAAC and to the MAAC All-Rookie Team in 2003, and was a Second Team All-MAAC selection in 2006. This past year Detelj earned a spot on the MAAC 35th Anniversary Team for fall sports.

Detelj is no stranger to success in Tenney Stadium, as he was also a standout on the Red Foxes' men's lacrosse team. He was named MAAC Tournament MVP in 2005 when Marist made its first NCAA Tournament appearance.

Marist's men's soccer team will open up the 2016 regular season at Albany with a 7 PM match Aug. 26. The Red Foxes' home opener is slated for 7 PM Aug. 30 against Hartwick. Their only home scrimmage during the preseason will be held at 7 PM Aug. 21 against NJIT.
