POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist College Department of Athletics honored the Class of 2019 with its annual banquet, held at Christo's Restaurant on Monday, May 6
th. Hailey Wagner of women's lacrosse and Frankie Gregoire of baseball were selected as the Sportspeople of the Year.

Wagner closed her Marist career with 573 draw controls, the second-most ever in NCAA history. In 2019, she set the NCAA single-season record in draw controls with 224, culminating in an All-MAAC First Team selection. Wagner earned postseason all-conference recognition every four years, collected three MAAC All-Academic honors, and was also the eighth Red Fox to score 100 career goals.

Gregoire, a two-time All-MAAC First Team and MAAC All-Academic selection, broke Marist's all-time home run record this season, and enters the week with 36 in his career. He has 12 homers in 2019, to the tune of a .301 batting average. In his career, the former Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American is second in program history with 163 RBIs and eighth with 714 at-bats.

Swimming and diving swept the James Pizzani Award, with women's diver Grace Casolo and men's captain Ross Lippe earning the distinctions. The Pizzani Award is given to one male and female student-athlete who best embody the qualities of the late James Pizzani, which are consistent with the college's core ideals of excellence in education, pursuit of higher human values, and dedication to the principle of service. James Pizzani was a 1964 Marist graduate who died in 1988 after a nine-month battle with cancer.

The President's Academic Achievement Award went to Wagner, her second individual award of the evening, and Max Darrington of men's tennis. The honor is presented to the male and female student-athletes with the highest cumulative grade-point average. Wagner becomes the second-straight female student-athlete to win both the Sportsperson of the Year and the President's Academic Achievement Award.

The Athletic Director's Award, given to the teams with the highest cumulative GPA, went to women's cross country and men's tennis. Last year, the men's cross country and women's tennis teams garnered the honor.

The Strength and Conditioning Individual Awards went to Maura Fitzpatrick of women's basketball and Kevin McKendry of men's lacrosse. For the third consecutive season, men's lacrosse was presented with the Team Strength and Conditioning trophy, with women's soccer also earning the team award.

Each senior student-athlete was recognized at the banquet, and upon the completion of his/her playing career, each Marist student-athlete will receive a custom USB drive with photos and videos from their careers.
