POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist men's soccer senior goalkeeper
Samuel Ilin was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Ilin recorded two clean sheets in Marist's two matches this past week, keeping the opposition off the scoreboard for 200 minutes. He made three saves in the Red Foxes' 1-0 victory at Monmouth on Wednesday. This included a save on a penalty kick in the 90
th minutes. He then recorded two saves in Marist's scoreless draw at Siena on Sunday.
Ilin now has three clean sheets in a row, and has an active scoreless streak of 325 minutes, 13 seconds. It is the first time Marist has had three straight shutouts since the 2011 season.
This is the second time this year a Red Fox has won a MAAC weekly award this season.
Huib Achterkamp was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 4. It is also the second career MAAC weekly award for Ilin, who was named MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year in 2019.
At 5-2-1, Marist currently sits atop the MAAC table. The Red Foxes (8-6-2 overall) play their final regular-season home match on Wednesday, when they host Niagara (4-3 MAAC, 6-8 overall) at 4 p.m.
