POUGHKEEPSIE, New York -- Marist volleyball sophomore
Nikki DeSerpa and senior
Kelsey Ediger were named to the 2017 All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference First and Second Team respectively as voted by the league's head coaches and announced during the conference's postseason awards show on Thursday night.
The awards are the first postseason accolades for both DeSerpa and Ediger.
DeSerpa led the team with 333 kills, 378 points, 3.23 kills per set and 3.67 assists per set.
Ediger ranked second on the Red Foxes with 267 kills, 304 points and 2.84 points per set. She recorded her 1,000th kill in the season's final match, a 3-1 win at Manhattan and stands in seventh place in program history with 1,000 career kills. She also is seventh in program history with 935 career digs and is just 65 away from becoming just the second player in program history to record 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.
In addition to the All-MAAC selections, Marist also had seven student-athletes named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. To be eligible for the All-Academic Team a student-athlete must have completed one year at their institution and hold a cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.
The Red Foxes returned to the MAAC Championship for the fifth consecutive season in 2017, earning the #4 seed and will play #5 Rider in the quarterfinal round on Friday, Nov. 17th at 8 PM.
