HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Marist women's basketball team dropped its second game of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown to the University of Southern California, 78-57, Saturday afternoon at the Stan Sheriff Center. With the loss the Red Foxes drop to 1-4 overall while USC improves to a perfect 6-0 on the season.
SUMMARY
After using a 7-0 run over four minutes in the first quarter the Red Foxes pulled out to a 15-14 lead after one. A 9-0 run for USC in the second quarter aided a 21-8 advantage for the Trojans in the second frame. USC would hold the Red Foxes to 21 percent (10-for-28) shooting in the first half to take a 12 point, 35-21 lead into halftime.
A 6-0 start for USC on two straight threes was quickly answered by a 7-0 run for Marist. The Trojans would respond with another 6-0 run to keep the distance and continue to pull away from there. USC would ring up its largest lead of the game (28) with 5:29 to go in the game.
KEY STATS
- The Trojans would finish the game 27-for-57 (.474) from the field but just 8-for-28 (.286) from three. The Red Foxes shot 23-for-56 (.411) from the field and 9-for-25 (.360) from deep.
- USC got to the line 19 times, converting 16 of them. Marist headed to the stripe just three times, making two.
- USC would outscore the Red Foxes in the paint (30-22), off of turnovers (29-13), and in second-chance points (11-7).

In the Red Foxes' last game of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown, they'll take on Purdue, a team that has also received votes in the AP Top 25 poll earlier this season. This is just the second time in program history that Purdue and Marist will face one another. The last time these two teams met #14/12 Purdue came away victorious, 71-50, at the Paradise Jam in 2012-13. The Red Foxes and Boilermakers will conclude the tournament on Sunday when they square off at 7:30 p.m. HT/2:30 p.m. ET.
