POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Three Marist student-athletes – junior Gabrielle Kelliher and sophomore Brandi Coon of the softball team, and junior Andrew Rouse of the baseball team – were named CoSIDA Academic All-District on Thursday. Kelliher earned the award for the second straight year, while Coon and Rouse each received the honor for the first time.
Kelliher is a Medical Technology/Biology major. She is hitting .321 with seven home runs, 24 RBIs, 10 doubles, and five stolen bases this year. Her 27 career home runs rank in fifth place in program history.
Coon is a Computer Science major. She is hitting .300 with one home run, 13 RBIs, 30 runs scored, and seven stolen bases this season. She has compiled a .994 fielding percentage this season.
Rouse is a Biomedical Sciences major. He leads the Red Foxes in both batting average (.340) and doubles (11) this year, and has added one home run, 23 RBIs, 28 runs scored, and 10 stolen bases.
This trio gives Marist four Academic All-District selections in the 2016-17 academic year. Chris Apicella of the football team was honored previously this year.
To be eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-District team, a student-athlete must have spent at least two prior semesters at his or her institution, have played in over 50 percent of the team's games, and have a grade-point average of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale.
The Marist softball team is 32-19 overall and 10-6 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. The Red Foxes are scheduled to host MAAC foes Rider on Saturday and Monmouth on Sunday for doubleheaders starting at noon, with Senior Day slated for Saturday. The Marist baseball team is 23-18 overall and 10-5 in the MAAC. The Red Foxes will host Rider for a three-game series this weekend, with a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game Sunday, with first pitch both days scheduled for noon.
