Marist Men’s Basketball Non-Conference Schedule Released

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist Athletics Department has released the non-conference schedule for the men's basketball team. The Red Foxes will play 12 contests prior to starting their 18-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference slate.
 
Marist will have four non-conference home games this season. As previously announced, the Red Foxes will play in the prestigious Advocare Invitational in Orlando over Thanksgiving Weekend. It is the first of two in-season tournaments Marist will compete in, as the Red Foxes will play a pair of games at Citadel's tournament the following weekend in Charleston, South Carolina.
 
Here is a closer look at Marist's non-conference foes for the 2017-18 season:
 
Saturday, Nov. 11 – home vs. Lehigh
  • All-time record: 0-4
  • Last meeting: Dec. 10, 2010 – Lehigh won 91-78 in Poughkeepsie. Current Portland Trail Blazer C.J. McCollum scored a game-high 35 to lead Lehigh.
 
Wednesday, Nov. 15 – at UMass Lowell
  • All-time record: 1-0
  • Last meeting: Nov. 29, 2016 – Marist prevailed at home, 81-69. The Red Foxes received 20-point efforts from Khallid Hart (23) and Ryan Funk (20).
 
Saturday, Nov. 18 – home vs. Army West Point
  • All-time record: 10-6
  • Last meeting: Dec. 20, 2015 – Marist won on the road, 89-83. Brian Parker notched his first career double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Thursday, Nov. 23 through Sunday, Nov. 26 – Advocare Invitational
  • Games to be played on Thursday, Nov. 23; Friday, Nov. 24; and Sunday, Nov. 26.
  • Field was released Nov. 25, 2016 -  also includes Central Florida, Long Beach State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oregon State, St. John's, and West Virginia.
  • This is Marist's third appearance in the Advocare Invitational. The Red Foxes are 3-3 in the tournament all time, with wins against Minnesota and Western Michigan in 2006, and Vanderbilt in 2012.
  • Tournament bracket will be released at a later date.
 
Friday, Dec. 1 & Saturday, Dec. 2 – Citadel Tournament
  • Marist will face Citadel on Friday, Dec. 1. It will be the first meeting between the teams.
  • Tournament has a bracket format. Depending on first day results, the Red Foxes will face either University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) or Army West Point on Saturday, Dec. 2.
  • Marist has never faced Citadel or UMBC.
 
Wednesday, Dec. 6 – home vs. Colgate
  • All-time record: 8-3
  • Last meeting: Nov. 14, 2012 – Colgate won at home, 74-60. Current Marist Athletics Business Manager Brandon James came off the bench to score a game-high 25 points for Colgate in 26 minutes.
 
Saturday, Dec. 9 – home vs. Stetson
  • All-time record: 0-1
  • Last meeting: Dec. 7, 1984 – Stetson won, 59-57, in Rik Smits' freshman year.
 
Saturday, Dec. 16 – at Murray State
  • First meeting between the teams.
 
Friday, Dec. 22 – at Brown  
Game times will be announced at a later date.
 
The Marist men's basketball team will be in its fourth season under the leadership of head coach Mike Maker in 2017-18.
