POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist Athletics Department has released the women's basketball team's non-conference schedule. The Red Foxes will play 12 games outside of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play including a trip to play in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Marist will open its season on Friday, Nov. 10 at home against Navy. Here is a closer look at the Red Foxes' non-conference opponents:
Friday, Nov. 10 – vs. Navy
- This will be the first time the teams have met since the 2000-01 season. Navy came away with a 66-59 win on Dec. 1, 2000.
- This is the third all-time meeting with Navy. The Red Foxes won the first meeting on Dec. 20, 1999, 66-65.
Tuesday, Nov. 14 – vs. Holy Cross
- Red Foxes in search of first win vs. Holy Cross in program history, 0-7 all-time.
- Marist fell to the Crusaders last season 50-46 in Worcester, MA.
- After renewing the series, last season's meeting between the two teams was the first since Dec. 20, 1998 when the Red Foxes traveled to Holy Cross but fell 80-67.
Sunday, Nov. 19 – at Northeastern
- Northeastern and Marist are tied at 3-3 in the all-time series which initiated in the 1984-85 season.
- After meeting again the next year (1985-86) the series reconvened in 2008-09 and 2009-10 and again in 2013-14 and 2014-15.
- The Red Foxes fell on the road to the Huskies 58-51 in the team's last meeting during the 2014-15 season.
- In the game prior, the Red Foxes defeated Northeastern 103-66, eclipsing 100 points in a game for the first time in head coach Brian Giorgis' tenure.
Friday, Nov. 24 – vs. Hawaii | Rainbow Wahine Showdown
- This will be the first time in program history that the Red Foxes will take on Hawaii but the second time the team will make the trip to Honolulu.
- Marist participated in the Oahu Classic in Honolulu during the 2007-08 season leaving with three victories against Utah, Nebraska, and Eastern Washington.
Saturday, Nov. 25 – vs. USC | Rainbow Wahine Showdown
- This will be the first time in program history that the Red Foxes will take on USC.
- The Red Foxes have faced only one other Pac-12 (Current) opponent in program history, defeating Utah in 2007-08 at the Oahu Classic.
Sunday, Nov. 26 – vs. Purdue | Rainbow Wahine Showdown
- This will be the second time in program history that the Red Foxes will take on Purdue.
- In the two teams first and only meeting in 2012-13, then #12/14 Purdue defeated Marist 71-50 at the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands.
Thursday, Nov. 30 – at Seton Hall
- Red Foxes are 1-6 against the Pirates all-time.
- Before reconvening the series last season, the teams' last meeting came in the 1994-95 season. Seton Hall opened the season ranked #23 in the country and defeated Marist, 72-43 on Dec. 3, 1994.
- Seton Hall's head coach Tony Bozzella, who was the longtime head coach for Iona, continues his career matchup with Brian Giorgis.
Saturday, Dec. 2 – vs. Dartmouth
- The Red Foxes are 4-1 all-time vs. Dartmouth.
- Behind six made threes from Lovisa Henningsdottir, the Red Foxes defeated the Big Green 66-61 in the teams' meeting last season.
- After restarting the series a season ago, Marist last faced Dartmouth on Nov. 20, 2010 and won 77-46 at the TD Bank Classic in Burlington, VT.
Wednesday, Dec. 6 – vs. Rhode Island
- Marist is in search of its first win vs. Rhode Island in program history.
- This is the fourth all-time meeting between the two teams, Rhode Island holds the 3-0 series advantage.
- Before the Rams 81-62 victory last season, the teams hadn't met since the 1982-83 season. Rhode Island came away with a 74-67 win on Dec. 9, 1982.
Saturday, Dec. 9 – at Boston University
- Marist is 7-5 all-time vs. the Terriers. The two programs have played annually since the 2008-09 season.
- The Red Foxes hosted BU last season on Dec. 10 and took down the Terriers, 76-57.
Saturday, Dec. 16 – at Temple
- The Owls are 2-1 all-time against Marist with the last meeting coming during the 2014-15 season in the Red Foxes first ever WNIT appearance.
- After not meeting since 2000-01, the Owls came away with a 67-54 victory to advance to the next round in the WNIT.
Thursday, Dec. 21 – at UMass
- This will be the first time in program history that the Red Foxes will take on UMass.
- The game against the Minutewomen concludes Marist's non-conference schedule and 2017.
