EDISON, New Jersey -- The Marist baseball team was picked to finish first in the 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, as voted by the league's 11 head coaches. After winning the program's league high sixth MAAC Championship in 2017, the Red Foxes secured a conference leading seven first place votes and topped the poll with 113 points total.Â
In addition to being picked first, senior left handed pitcher
Charlie Jerla and junior outfielder
Frankie Gregoire (unanimous selection) were named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team at pitcher and outfielder respectively.Â
Named 2017 MAACÂ Pitcher of the Year in addition to selected to the First Team All-MAAC, Jerla finished 2017 with a 9-2 record to go along with a 4.08 ERA, 69 strikeouts and 23 walks in 70.2 innings pitched.Â
Gregoire is coming off his second consecutive First Team All-MAAC selection in 2017 after finishing with a .297 average with 57 hits, eight doubles, a team high nine home runs and 43 RBI in 43 games played.Â
