Editor's Note: Release provided by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced today that a total of 23 school-produced ESPN broadcasts will air on the newly launched ESPN+ platform this spring.
Marist will have contests that will air on ESPN+ on two occasions: men's lacrosse at Monmouth (April 14, 3 p.m.) and softball at Iona (April 22, doubleheader starting at noon).
Â
"The MAAC's long-time partnership with ESPN is much valued by the league's membership and remains a strategic priority in the conference's strategic planning," notes MAAC Commissioner Richard Ensor. "The addition of a direct to consumer platform in the form of ESPN+ is exciting, and fills a programming void for the league that was developing because of the growth of 'cord cutters' or 'no cords' within key demographic groups the MAAC is seeking to reach with its broadcast programming. The MAAC has been a leader in partnering with ESPN on new platforms including the launch of ESPNU and ESPN3, and with the build out of ESPN production facilities at all 11-member schools. ESPN+ is the next step and we look forward to providing over 300 events to the platform in the coming academic year."
Â
Monmouth University is set to produce the first two MAAC ESPN+ broadcasts on Saturday, April 14. The Hawks host a pair of lacrosse games with their women's team taking on Niagara University at 12:00 p.m., followed by the men's team facing Marist College at 3:00 p.m.
Â
On Thursday, April 12, ESPN launched ESPN+ as a part of the new ESPN app. The new app is a completely re-imagined experience that includes the seamless integration of
ESPN+, the first-ever multi-sport, direct-to-consumer premium subscription streaming service from The Walt Disney Company's Direct-to-Consumer and International group, in partnership with ESPN. ESPN+ is available on Amazon, Apple, and Google Platforms.
Â
ESPN+ leverages BAMTECH Media's video and commerce platform to offer fans thousands of additional live events, on-demand content and original programming not available on ESPN's linear TV or digital networks. This includes hundreds of MLB, NHL and MLS games, Grand Slam tennis, Top Rank boxing, PGA Tour golf, college sports, international rugby, cricket, the full library of ESPN Films (includingÂ
30 for 30) and more not available on any other platform.
Â
As part of a subscription to ESPN+, fans will receive app and streaming experience enhancements that include:
- Value & Flexibility – 7-day free trial, followed by a subscription fee of just $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year, with the ability to cancel at any time. During the first week of launch (April 12-18) fans are being offered a special extended 30-day free trial subscription backed by American Express;
- HD Streaming – high-definition, 60 frames per second stream quality makes the action crisper and cleaner;
- Live Pause, Rewind and Restart – pause, rewind and start-from-the-beginning functionality for all live and on-demand content, all with the ability to multitask on devices while streaming;
- Limited Advertising – ESPN+ subscribers get a differentiated advertising experience throughout the entire ESPN App or website, with no display ads and no pre-roll ads within video content (ads remain in the natural advertising breaks of live sports content);
- Sports Marketplace – the ability to also subscribe to additional premium streaming services like MLB.TV (and NHL.TV, beginning in 2018-19) all within the ESPN app environment.
As a part of the current MAAC-ESPN partnership ESPN+ will become home to hundreds of MAAC games, championships, and shows over the next several years.
Â
Replays of all MAAC events aired on ESPN+ will be available for 45 days on the new platform.
