Ashleigh Huckins was hired as the Marist Water Polo Head Coach prior to the 2008 season.
In her six seasons as Head Coach of the Marist water polo team, Huckins has compiled an 129-92 record, including three consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) titles from 2008-10.
In 2013, Marist went 25-12 and tied for the MAAC Regular Season Championship with a 10-2 conference record. The Red Foxes earned the third seed in the MAAC Tournament, falling to second seeded Iona, the eventual champions, 12-9 in the semifinals.
In 2012, she led Marist to 19-19 record that included a 10-2 mark in the MAAC. Of their 24 non-conference games, 13 of them were against opponents who were nationally ranked in the top-20 at the time. Huckins earned her 100th career victory on Saturday, April 14 in a 17-3 win over St. Francis (N.Y.). The Red Foxes earned the second seed in the MAAC Tournament, but fell 5-4 to third-seeded Wagner in the semifinals. They came back to defeat Villanova 14-7 in the consolation game.
The Red Foxes went 20-21 in 2011, finishing third in the MAAC
In her first season with the Red Foxes, Huckins led Marist to a program-record 27 wins and a second MAAC Water Polo League Championship and subsequent NCAA Tournament berth. Marist went 27-10 in 2008 and finished MAAC play undefeated at 10-0.
In the 2009 season, Marist went 19-15 and won its third MAAC Water Polo League title in four years. The Red Foxes also became the first team to win back-to-back MAAC titles. Marist reached the NCAA Tournament for the third time, winning its first tournament game in program history with a 16-11 win over Cal Lutheran.
Before coming to Poughkeepsie, Huckins had most recently served as a head coach of the United Water Polo Club and at Sammamish High School in the state of Washington. Huckins led Sammamish High to a third-place finish in the state this past year, also earning Coach of the Year honors.
In addition to her coaching experience, Huckins plays in Australia, competing for the Cronulla Sharks of the National League from 2004-05. This followed a stellar playing career at Hartwick College, where she helped lead her squad to a fourth-place in the NCAA Tournament in 2004. That year, Huckins also served as team captain and won the Northern League Most Valuable Player award as Hartwick took first place in the Eastern Championships. Hartwick also captured four consecutive CPWA Northern Division and Region titles in Huckins' time there.
Huckins graduated from Hartwick in 2004 with a B.A. in Business Management and a minor in Documentary Photography. She received her Masters in Communications from Marist in 2011. Huckins now lives in Oneonta with her husband Alan. The couple welcomed their first child, Ryder, in March, 2012.
