Marist Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Defeats Rider

Final Stats

Lawrenceville, NJ---The Marist College men's (2-0, 1-0) and women's (1-1, 1-0) swimming and diving teams defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Rider, this afternoon at Coppola Pool. The men and women were victorious with scores of 129-114, and 146-86 respectively.

In the men's competition, junior Ricky Kapusta (Stamford, Conn.) went unbeaten on the afternoon with wins in the 50-yard freestyle (22.01), and in the 100-yard free (48.33). In addition, the Red Foxes established new Coppola Pool records in both the 400 medley, and 400 freestyle relays. The team of Trevor Charles (Middletown,Conn), Rob Dunn (Pittsford, NY), Nick Lakin (Fairport, NY), and Dave Dobbins (Greece, NY), set a new standard in the 400-yard medley relay (3:32.96), erasing the old mark of 3:34.34. Marist went on to secure the team's win with a victory in the final event of the competition, the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:11.12), with a team of Dobbins, Matt Castillo (Jamaica, NY), Kapusta, and Lakin.

On the women's side, the Red Foxes were led by double winners Jennifer Meyer (Fairport, NY), Amber Van De Carr (Rhinebeck, NY), and Jennifer Gelsomino (Harrison, NY). Meyer won easily in the 50-yard freestyle (25.21) and the 100-yard freestyle (55.75). On the boards, Van De Carr claimed victories in the 1-meter dive (217.58) and in the 3-meter dive (223.35). Gelsomino had a pair of wins in the 200-yard individual medley (2:12.28) and in the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.20).

Marist will next face Iona College on Tuesday, November 13th, at 7:00 p.m. at the McCann Center Natatorium.
