New Rochelle, NY - The Marist College men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Iona on Tuesday night and defeated the Gaels in dual meet action. The men won 129-97, improving to 3-0 on the season, and 2-0 in MAAC dual meets. The women won 124-99 and increased their record to 2-1, with a 2-0 record in the MAAC.
Michael Guman (Stratford, CT) led the men with wins in the 1-meter dive (143.15) and 3-meter dive (167.95). Kevin Connors (Lincroft, NJ) was also a double-winner, taking the 200 individual medley (2:05.29) and 200 butterfly (2:02.79). Matthew Castillo (Jamaica, NY) touched the wall first in the 200 backstroke (1:58.17), while Matthew Miller (Woodbridge, VA) won in the 1000 freestyle (10:50.07). The team of Kevin Bobenchik (Rahway, NJ), Joseph Pilewski (Sparta, NJ), Will Reagan (Waterbury, CT), and Miller won the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:48.77
In women's competition, Amber Van De Carr (Rhinebeck, NY) won both the 1-meter (136.80) and 3-meter dives (146.95) for the Red Foxes. Sarah McKinney (Schaumburg, IL) took the win in the 1000 freestyle (11:08.53), Jennifer Gelsomino (Harrison, NY) won in the 200 butterfly (2:16.76), and Karen Fleckenstein (Port Jefferson, NY) was the winner in the 200 backstroke (2:12.39). The 400 freestyle relay team of Gelsomino, McKinney, Alyson Fiorillo (Pottsville, PA), and Jennifer Meyer (Fairport, NY) turned in a time of 3:47.15 for the win.
The Iona men's team drops to 0-1 on the season, while the women fall to 1-2, with a 0-1 record in the MAAC.
The Marist College men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action on Saturday, November 16, when they host Fairfield and St. Peter's in dual meet action at the McCann Center Natatorium beginning at 1:00 p.m.
