Red Fox Crew Teams Compete at Knecht Cup

Camden, NJ---The Marist College men's and women's crew teams competed in the Knecht Cup Regatta this past weekend, hosted by Villanova University on the Cooper River, in Camden, NJ. The men's team notched four first place finishes, while the women rowed well in a very competitive field.

The men's varsity four boat completed the preliminary course in a time of 7:07.40, making it to the finals where the Red Foxes placed sixth overall, defeating Boston College with a time of 7:06.9. The men's novice eight made it into the finals competition, crossing the finish line in first place (6:11.6), defeating Boston College and Army, who placed second and third. The men's varsity eight was victorious in a time of 6:08.2, outdistancing runner-up Dowling by over four seconds. The men's second novice eight grabbed first place in a winning time of 6:35.5, nipping Boston College by 1.3 seconds. In the men's second varsity and novice lightweight eight, the Red Foxes rowed to a winning time of 6:13.3, topping second place Drexel by 8.3 seconds.

In the women's competition, the women's novice four completed the course in a time of 8:52.54, finishing ahead of Bucknell, Duquesne, and Carnegie Mellon in their preliminary heat. The women's varsity four rowed to a time of 8:03.10, defeating West Virginia, Duquesne, and Rhode Island in the prelims. In the final race, the women's novice eight, the Red Foxes finished the race in 7:30.9, defeating Virginia Tech in the process.

The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday, April 20th, at the 2002 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships held at the Orchard Beach Lagoon, NY.
