Poughkeepsie, NY---The Marist College women's water polo team won their final match of the season, posting an 18-7 victory over Siena College, to close out the first-ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Water Polo Showcase, held at the McCann Center Natatorium. Also competing in the event was league member Iona College.
The Red Foxes closed their season 4-22, notching the best record in the program's history. Marist closed out last season with a 2-16 overall record. The Red Foxes were led in scoring on the afternoon by Alyson Fiorillo (Pottsville, PA) and Carolyn Rosler (Blue Bell, PA), each tallying three goals apiece. In addition, goalkeeper Liz Sovern (Sandy Hook, CT) made six saves in the two contests.
In the first match of the afternoon Iona topped Siena 9-2. The Iona offense was lead by Kacy Parilla, Elaine Cardenas, and Shannon McGady, each tallying two goals. Angie and Erin Mead registered the two Saints' goals in the match. The Gaels held a 17-11 lead in shots on goal, and Iona goalkeeper Elaine Gibson led in saves over Jeanine Giunta 10-5.
In the second match of the showcase, the Gaels defeated the Red Foxes 8-3. Kaitlyn Kelly and McGady had two goals apiece to lead the Iona offense. Marist led in shots 18-10, while the Gaels led in saves with Jennifer Schoemaker, 8-4.
