Final Stats
Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College men's and women's swimming and diving teams concluded the regular season by earning a split against Lehigh this afternoon at the McCann Center Natatorium. The men's team won 157-86 and finishes the regular season at 12-1, while the women were defeated 158-85 to fall to 6-8 on the season.
Matthew Castillo (Jamaica, NY) led the men with a pair of wins in the 200 freestyle (1:43.38) and the 200 butterfly (1:57.07). Henry Puretz (Poughkeepsie, NY) was also a double-winner, taking the 500 freestyle (4:49.01) and the 1000 freestyle (9:54.88). Trevor Charles (Middletown, CT) captured wins in the 200 individual medley (1:56.74) as well as the 200 backstroke (1:53.15). Ricky Kapusta (Stamford, CT) also swam well, winning the 50 freestyle (21.34) and the 100 freestyle (47.42).
The 400 freestyle relay team of Jeffrey Paul (Meadowbrook, PA), Raymond Ferranti (Melville, NY), Kapusta, and Castillo swam to the 72nd fastest time in the country this season by finishing in 3:09.09. Dan Cerasale (Meridan, CT) had a strong day on the boards, winning the 1-meter dive (237.68) and 3-meter dive (219.08) for the Red Foxes. Michael Guman (Stratford, CT) finished second in the 1-meter dive (230.55) and Anthony Manza (Brooklyn, NY) placed second in the 3-meter dive (187.95).
Missy Gifford (Glens Falls, NY) won two diving events for the women, claiming the 1-meter dive (226.50) and the 3-meter dive (247.80). Teammate Amber Van De Carr (Rhinebeck, NY) finished second in the 1-meter dive (212.32) as well as the 3-meter dive (228.30). Jennifer Gelsomino (Harrison, NY) picked up the victory in the 200 butterfly (2:12.91), while Jennifer Meyer (Fairport, NY) won the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.58. Karen Fleckenstein (Port Jefferson, NY) placed second in the 200 backstroke for the Red Foxes.
The Red Foxes return to action when they compete in the MAAC Championships, which will be held at Loyola College in Baltimore, MD from Thursday, February 20th through Saturday, February 22nd. Competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. on February 20th.
