Water Polo Opens Play At Coyote Classic

San Bernardino, CA - The Marist College water polo team finished their first day of competition at the Coyote Classic at Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday. The Red Foxes dropped their first two matches, falling to La Verne, 14-4, and host Cal State San Bernardino, 19-4, before defeating Cal Tech 15-9. Marist is now 3-4 on the season.

In the match against La Verne, the Red Foxes fell behind 7-1 at the half, before outscoring the Leopards 3-2 in the third. La Verne would add five more goals to seal the win. Carolyn Rosler (Blue Bell, PA), Joelle Evanousky (Barnesville, PA), Alyson Fiorillo (Pottsville, PA), and Jennifer Meyer (Fairport, NY) each scored for the Red Foxes in the contest. Jenn Brady led La Verne with seven goals, while Rene Moyer added four.

Marist had a 2-1 lead on Cal State San Bernardino, but would later fall behind 13-3 as the Coyotes won convincingly. Ashley Woerner (Hinsdale, IL), Evanousky, Fiorillo, and Meyer scored a goal apiece in the loss. Kari Harberts, Sarah Reneker, and Shannon Lewison each tallied three goals for the Coyotes.

In the match against Cal Tech, the Red Foxes had a 9-3 lead at the half and were able to hold off the Beavers for the victory. Meyer led Marist with four goals, while Evanousky and Woerner each had three. Ashley Grant led Cal Tech with five goals.

Meyer led the Red Foxes with six goals on the day, while Evanousky added five.

The Red Foxes continue play at the Coyote Classic on Sunday, when they take on Notre Dame at 2:40 p.m., and Whittier at 6:10 p.m.
