Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College water polo team fell to Queens 10-8, and St. Francis (NY) 16-7, before earning a 14-8 win over Siena in Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) action to open the season at the McCann Center Natatorium on Saturday. The Red Foxes are now 1-2 on the season, with a 0-1 record in MAAC play.
In the first game of the day, Queens had an 8-2 lead heading into the fourth quarter before Marist answered with goals by Joelle Evanousky (Barnesville, PA), Alyson Fiorillo (Pottsville, PA), and Carolyn Rosler (Blue Bell, PA), to make it 8-5. Queens overcame the late rally, however, to earn the win. Evanousky scored three times in that game, while Fiorillo and Rosler scored two goals each.
The Red Foxes trailed 7-3 at the half against St. Francis, before the Terriers responded with four goals in the third quarter, and five more in the fourth to clinch the victory. Evanousky led Marist with two goals in the loss to St. Francis.
In the finale against Siena, the scoring was fast paced in the first quarter as both teams were tied 4-4. Marist added another goal in the second quarter, before scoring nine goals in the second half to earn their first win of the season. Fiorillo had five goals in that game, while Evanousky, Ashley Woerner (Hinsdale, IL), and Jennifer Meyer (Fairport, NY) each scored twice.
On the day, Fiorillo led Marist with eight goals, while Evanousky tallied seven.
The Red Foxes return to action on Sunday, March 9th, when they travel to Loudonville, NY to take on MAAC foe Siena at 4:15 p.m.
