ANN ARBOR, MICH- The Marist College women's water polo team fared well today at the Michigan Invitational, defeating Eastern Michigan 11-10 before falling to No. 10 Michigan 14-2 this morning.
It was a see-saw battle between the Eagles of Eastern Michigan and the Red Foxes throughout the game, with three lead changes and four ties. Down 9-8 heading into the fourth final period, Marist scored three unanswered goals to secure the 11-10 victory. Freshman Jillian Jefferds and junior Carolyn Rosler each scored three goals for the Red Foxes, while senior Alyson Fiorillo added two goals. Ashley Woerner, Maura McCabe and Susan Russo each chipped in with one goal.
Against Michigan, Joelle Evanousky made the score 2-1 with 43 seconds left in the first period but the Wolverines continued to their offensive attack adding eight unanswered goals. Jefferds scored the Red Foxes only other goal on the day with 34 seconds left in the third period.
The Red Foxes are off until February 14-15th when they take part in the Princeton Invitational.
