Loudonville, N.Y. - The Marist water polo team (4-11) earned wins today over Queens College and Connecticut College at Siena. Sophomore driver Mary Grisey scored five goals and added an assist to lead the Red Foxes to 13-5 and 11-4 victories.
In today's first match, Marist led 7-0 after the first period and 10-0 midway through the second quarter before taking an 11-1 lead at intermission. The Red Foxes would cruise from there to the 13-5 win. Sophomore 2M Katie Swanson scored three times and assisted on another goal while Grisey had two goals and an assist. Sophomore 2MD Jillian Jefferds and senior co-captain Susan Grant had two goals apiece. Freshman goalie Elizabeth Davis made four saves in the first half while classmate Katy Zweifel came on in the second half and made six saves.
Grisey led all scorers with three goals in the afternoon match, an 11-4 win over Connecticut College. Junior utility Amanda Long tallied two goals while six other Red Foxes found the net. Jefferds, freshman driver Allison Rader, senior driver Carolyn Rosler and senior driver Kerin Sovern each had a goal and an assist. Davis made eight saves in the first half and Zweifel, who took over at halftime, made 11.
The Red Foxes are back in action Saturday, March 19 at the Hartwick Invitational. Marist will face the 15th-ranked host school and re-match with Connecticut College as well as play two exhibition matches.
