EDISON, N.J. - Freshman Kari Weston (Chino Hills, Calif.) has been named the MAAC Water Polo League Rookie of the Week it was announced by the league office on Tuesday. Weston scored at least one goal in all four of the Red Foxes' games at the Princeton Invitational, including three goal games against Bucknell and George Washington.
In her first collegiate game against #18 Princeton, Weston tallied a goal in a 12-2 defeat. She came back in game two on Saturday and tallied again in a 5-3 lose to Maryland. On day two of the tournament she scored three goals in each of Marist's two games of the day. Marist split the two games on Sunday, falling to Bucknell 11-7 and then defeating George Washington 10-8. Against the Colonials Weston also recorded two assists. The win against George Washington marked the first time in program history the Red Foxes have beaten the Colonials.
For the weekend Weston recorded eight goals, two assists, four steals and nine drawn ejections.
Marist, who was picked to finish third in the MAAC preseason poll, opened the season by going 1-3 at Princeton. The Red Foxes will be back in action this weekend when they will compete in the Bucknell Invitational.
