POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's swimming and diving team won nine of 13 events Tuesday night, leading the way to a 142-84 win over Iona at the McCann Center Natatorium.
The Red Foxes started the meet strong, as the team of Luke Johnson (Pensacola, Fla.), Greg Jablonski (Massapequa, N.Y.), Spencer Hartmann (Windsor, Conn.), and Angelo Ciraolo (Grand Island, N.Y.) won the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:36.72, beating the Iona relay by 9.5 seconds. In the 1000-yard freestyle, senior Ralph Rienzo (Wallingford, Conn.) and freshman Leo Draham (Blue Bell, Pa.) finished 1-2, with Rienzo winning the race in 10:02.51. Mark Esolen (Archbald, Pa.) won the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 2:01.08, with Hartmann finishing second in 2:03.43.
Johnson and Hartmann would finish 1-2 in the 200 yard freestyle with times of 1:46.94 and 1:48.01 respectively. Freshman Keith Miller (Missoula, Mont.) and Ciraolo took the top two spots in the 50 yard freestyle in times of 22.34 and 22.43. Hartmann won the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.43. Marist would dominate the 200 yard IM, with Jablonski taking the race in a time of 1:58.86, with sophomore Kevin Quinn (Neponsit, N.Y.) finishing second in 2:03.26, and Greg Pfeifer (Middle Village, N.Y.) took third in 2:05.77. Thomas Byrnes (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) and Thomas Alaimo (Blauvelt, N.Y.) went 1-2 in the 200 yard backstroke, with Byrnes finishing in 2:03.49.
Marist swept the diving events, with Devon O'Nalty (East Hartford, Conn.) winning the one meter event and Mitchell Katz (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) winning the three meter event.
The Red Foxes (3-1, 2-1 MAAC) return to the pool on Nov.30 in Baltimore to take on Delaware, Niagara, and Loyola over that weekend.
