LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J.-On Saturday afternoon, the Marist men's and women's swimming and diving teams dropped their MAAC opener at Rider. The women were outscored 175-125. The men were defeated 168-132.
For the Marist women (0-2, 0-1 MAAC), Jenell Walsh-Thomas (Medford, N.J) won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:36.20. She also won the 500 yard freestyle (5:12.36).
Junior Spencer Hartmann (Windsor, Conn.) had a strong meet for the men. He won the 200 and 500 yard freestyle events (1:44.58 and 4:45.08). He also got the top spot in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:55.81.
Ralph Rienzo (Wallingford, Conn.) also had a good day for the Red Foxes (1-1, 0-1 MAAC). He won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:55.27. He finished second in the 500 freestyle (4:53.24).
Senior Greg Jablonski (Massapequa, N.Y.) had the best time in the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:31.17). He also won both the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke (59.10 and 2:12.19).
Both the men and women will return to the pool on November 10th at Fairfield.
