POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist Red Foxes men's swimming and diving team hosted their last home dual meet of the fall 2008 season on Saturday afternoon against Farifield. The Red Foxes collected their first dual meet win of the season and improved their record to 1-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The final score was 153-130.
The Red Foxes won 10 events at the meet. These wins were highlighted by sophomore Brian Bolstad (Highland, N.Y.), who broke the school record for 3-meter diving. His score of 335.33 beat the old record held by Devon O'Nalty. Bolstad's score also qualifies him for the NCAA Zone Championships held in Buffalo, N.Y. later this season. Bolstad also won the 1-meter board with a score of 282.00.
Marist won four out of five the freestyle events, as they took first in the 1,000-yd., the 200-yd., 50-yd., and 100-yd. events. Sophomore Leo Draham (Blue Bell, Pa.) won the 1,000-yd. free in a time of 10:23.63, senior Spencer Hartmann (Windsor, Conn.) won the 200-yd. freestyle with a time of 1:44.83, sophomore Steven Vendetta (South Windsor, Conn.) won the 50-yd. freestyle with a time of 22.80 seconds, and sophomore Luke Johnson (Pensacola, Fla.) won the 100-yd. freestyle with a time of 49.24 seconds.
The Red Foxes also won the 100-yd. and 200-yd. backstroke events. Sophomore Joshua Sklanka won the 100-yd. and classmate Keith Miller (Missoula, Mont.) won the 200-yd. with times of 56.95 seconds and 2:01.91 respectively.
The Marist men's swimming and diving team will return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. when the team will travel to New Rochelle, N.Y. for a dual meet with the Iona Gaels.
