Marist Men's Crew Varsity Four Places 2nd At IRAs, Earns Highest Finish In School History

June 7, 2008

CAMDEN, N.J. - The Marist men's crew varsity four turned in a second-place finish at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships on Saturday, completing its race in a time of 6 minutes, 20.8 seconds. By placing second, the tandem of Shawn Marion (stroke seat), captain Matthew Keys (three seat), Jonathan Martin (two seat), Kevin Fletcher (bow seat) and Holly Adler (coxswain) earned the highest finish for men's crew at IRAs in program history.

"I'm really excited for the future of our crew team, and that these guys put in a lot of hard work all year," first-year Marist head coach Sean Clarke said. "They deserve to be fully rewarded for their efforts. They rowed above and beyond their capabilities."

By finishing second, Marist earned a medal at IRAs for the first time in program history. The Red Foxes' previous highest finish in any event at the regatta was fifth.

Washington won the varsity four final with a time of 6:19.9. Following Marist was third-place Cornell in a time of 6:21.7.

This is the final event of the 2007-08 season for Marist athletics.
