Marist Crushes DDO, Falls To Brown At Marist Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist water polo team split its first two games at the Marist Invitational on Saturday at the McCann Natatorium. The Red Foxes defeated DDO from Canada 15-4 in the morning session before falling in a rematch with Brown 9-8. Sophomore Colleen Lischwe (Kirkwood, Mo.) and junior Samantha Swartz (Harleysville, Pa.) each had a hat trick in Marist's morning win, with Katelin McCahill (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) scoring three goals in the narrow defeat to Brown.

Marist dominated the morning game against DDO, taking a 9-2 lead at halftime. DDO outscored the Red Foxes 2-1 in the third quarter, but Marist shutout the visitors 5-0 in the fourth for the convincing win. Ten different players scored for the Red Foxes in their opening win. Sophomore Kristen Powers (Los Altos, Calif.) each had two assists. Jessica Getchius (Simi Valley, Calif.) had 14 saves in the win with three steals and an assist.

It was Brown in the nightcap that dominated the game early. After taking a 3-2 halftime lead, the Bears shutout Marist 3-0 in the second quarter to take a four-goal lead into halftime. The Red Foxes scored four times in the third to make the score 9-6, but could only muster two more goals in the fourth before falling 9-8. Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.) had two goals to go with McCahill's three as Hilary Schroeder (Santa Barbara, Calif.), Rachel Sunday (Carlisle, Pa.), and Kristen Barnett (Houston, Texas) and Lischwe each had three steals. Getchius had five saves and two steals.

Marist will play two more matches in the Marist Invitational Sunday at McCann Natatorium. The Red Foxes will take on DDO-A at 12:40 before taking on #14 Hartwick at 5:20 p.m.
