VILLANOVA, PA. - The Marist water polo team split its two MAAC Water Polo League games on Saturday at Villanova to move to 4-2 in conference. The Red Foxes defeated Wagner 10-5 before falling to St. Francis (NY) 10-7. Rachel Sunday (Carlisle, Pa.) and Rosie Pauli (Sacramento, Calif.) each had four goals on the day for Marist.
Marist (13-12, 4-2 MAAC) took a 3-1 lead after the first quarter in its first game of the day against Wagner. After both teams scored twice in the second quarter to make the score 5-3, the Red Foxes outscored the Seahawks 4-0 in the third quarter to take a 9-3 lead and put the game away. Samantha Swartz (Harleysville, Pa.) led Marist with three goals and four assists as Sunday and Angie Rampton (Simi Valley, Calif.) each had two goals. Rampton also had two assists. Jessica Getchius (Simi Valley, Calif.) made 11 saves in goal for the Red Foxes.
St. Francis (NY) took control early in Marist's second game of the day, leading 3-1 after the first quarter. The Red Foxes outscored the Terriers 2-1 in both the second and third quarters to tie the game at 5-5. The Terriers, however, would not roll over. St. Francis outscored Marist 5-2 in the final quarter for the 10-7 win. Pauli had three goals and three steals to lead the Red Foxes as Sunday scored a pair of goals. For the second straight game, Getchius made 11 saves.
Marist continues MAAC Water Polo League play on Saturday, April 18 at Siena. The Red Foxes will play Villanova at 10 a.m. and St. Francis at 2:30 p.m.
