PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J. - The Marist men's crew team won its ninth consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championship and 12th overall on Saturday. The men's team won the competition by six points with 179, while Loyola College came in second place with 173. On the women's side of the meet, the Red Foxes finished second with 170 points, to Loyola who won with 174.
The men's rowers won a total of five events raced on Saturday: the men's lightweight varsity four (7:49.6, 25 points), the men's varsity four (7:25.4, 25 points), the men's novice four (7:41.4, 15 points), men's novice eight (6:57.4, 30 points), and the men's second varsity eight (7:08.6, 30 points).
On the women's side, the Red Foxes took first place in the women's varsity eight, the teams' lone top finish on the day. Their final time was 7:40.9, which collected the Red Foxes a total of 40 points.
Additionally, the MAAC released the All-Academic Teams for the 2008-09 season. A total of 24 student-athletes were named to the All-Academic Team, the highest total of any school in the conference.
The men's All-Academic honorees were juniors Graham Bullis (Seattle, Wash./Business) and Jonathan Martin (Simsbury, Conn./Accounting).
The women had a total of 22 student-athletes named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. Junior Amanda Bassett (Menands, N.Y./Psychology/Special Education), sophomores Rebecca Belanger (East Hartford, Conn./Psychology/Special Education), Meredith Boyd (Hampden, Mass./Psychology/Special Education), Elyse Calcerano (Skillman, N.J./Business), Lydia Charney (Westerville, N.Y./Communications), Kaleigh Cole (Westerville, Ohio/Athletic Training), Talia Fluger (Saranac Lake, N.Y./Communications), and Kelly Furlong (Westfield, N.J./Communications Studies), junior Zerina Garcia (Deptford, N.J./Accounting), sophomores Abigail Ketner (Dix Hills, N.Y./Biomedical Studies), Cassandra Koegel (Niskayuna, N.Y./Spanish/Adolescent Education), and Megan Mahoney (Buffalo, N.Y./History), junior Ashley Mitchell (West Simsbury, Conn.), sophomore Christine Page (Simsbury, Conn./Communications) and Caitlin Perry (Norfolk, Mass./Psychology), junior Kaitlin Satalin (Syracuse, N.Y./Communications), senior Sarah Shoemaker (Columbia, N.J./Communications), junior Sarah Sterner (New Bloomfield, Pa./Environmental Science and Policy), senior Lindsay Wright (Longmeadow, Mass./Communication Studies), junior Brianne Yantz (Setauket, N.Y./History) and senior Megan Yarchak (Windham, Conn./Biology).
