Box Score

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Marist baseball team split a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader with Siena on Saturday. After losing the first game 10-6, the Red Foxes rebounded for an 8-3 triumph in the second game. Junior shortstop Richard Curylo (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 5-for-10 with six RBIs on the day, and sophomore right-hander Kyle Putnam (New Windsor, N.Y.) earned a complete game victory in the second game.

In game one, a two-run double by Curylo gave the Red Foxes a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Siena scored three times in its half of the second. In the fourth, senior left fielder Brian McDonough (Hanover, Mass.) led off with a double and came around to score on an error to tie the game at three. An RBI single by senior right fielder Kyle Meyer (East Greenbush, N.Y.) later in the inning put the Red Foxes up 4-3. However, Siena answered with two in its half of the fourth to take a 5-4 lead.

The Red Foxes would take the lead back in the sixth, as McDonough led off the inning with a single, and was driven home on another RBI single by Meyer. An RBI single by Curylo drove in Meyer to put the Red Foxes up 6-5, but the Saints answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score at six apiece.

Siena took the lead with two runs in the seventh without getting a hit, as the Saints were aided by five Marist errors. The Saints would tack on two more runs in the eighth to provide the final margin of 10-6.

Dan Lazzaroni pitched 3.1 scoreless innings of relief for Siena to earn the win and improve to 3-0. Freshman right-hander Jake Rifkin (West Deptford, N.J.), who allowed no hits and two unearned runs in 1.1 innings, took the loss to fall to 1-4. McDonough went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, Meyer was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Curylo went 2-for-5 with three RBIs.

Curylo homered on the first pitch of game two to give the Red Foxes a quick 1-0 lead. Siena tied the score in the bottom of the first, but Marist took the lead back in the second on an RBI single by Meyer. Curylo added an RBI on an infield ground ball that put the Red Foxes up 3-1.

A two-run triple by sophomore second baseman Ricky Pacione (Newburgh, N.Y.) scored both red-shirt senior first baseman Kenny Anderson (Randolph, N.J.) and Curylo to give the Red Foxes a 5-1 lead in the fourth. Marist scored twice in the fifth on another RBI single by Meyer and on an error to go up 7-2. Siena cut it to 7-3 in the fifth, but Marist closed out the scoring in the seventh on an infield single by Curylo, which scored freshman third baseman George Agostini (Rehoboth, Mass.).

Putnam, who improved to 2-3, scattered six hits en route to going all seven innings. Two of the three runs he allowed were earned. He walked none and struck out five, and finished with a flourish as he retired the side in order in the sixth and seventh innings.

Curylo went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Meyer went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Agostini, Anderson and senior catcher Andrew Stanton (Delmar, N.Y.) all went 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

Marist is now 21-19 overall and 8-6 in the MAAC, while Siena is now 10-30 overall and 6-11 in MAAC play. Junior right-hander B.J.
