2009 NCAA Bracket 
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - After winning its second consecutive MAAC Water Polo Tournament on Sunday afternoon, Marist was named the seventh seed in the 2009 NCAA Women's Water Polo Tournament on Monday. The Red Foxes will take on second-seeded Stanford on Friday, May 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the Eppley Recreation Center on the campus of the University of Maryland. In all three of its NCAA appearances, Marist will have played the Cardinal in the first round.
Marist enters the tournament with an 18-13 record, having won seven of its last 10 games. The Red Foxes defeated Wagner 7-6 and Iona 11-7 to win the MAAC Water Polo Championship at the McCann Natatorium this weekend. Marist's tournament title is its third in four years. Stanford earned an at-large bid after finishing second to USC in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation's tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii this weekend. The Cardinal is 24-3 on the season and defeated Marist in last year's tournament, held at Stanford, 12-1.
The Red Foxes and Cardinal will play the first game of the tournament. Third-seeded UCLA will take on the sixth seed Michigan afterwards at 3:15 p.m. Top-seeded USC will play Cal Lutheran at 5 p.m., with fourth-seeded Loyola Marymount taking on Hawaii at 6:45 p.m. to wrap up the first day of the tournament. The tournament is an eight-team, single-elimination tournament with a consolation bracket to determine places three through eight.
