POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's tennis team moved to 5-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) after a 7-0 victory over the Loyola Greyhounds on Sunday morning at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion. All six singles players won in straight sets as the closest score for any of the starters was 6-3.
The Red Foxes coasted through the doubles collectively. At first doubles, junior Christian Coley (Glastonbury, Conn.) and sophomore Nicolas Pisecky (Lausanne, Switzerland) defeated J. Pierce Norton and Keyan Sanai, 8-3.
Junior Loic Sessagesimi (Blonay, Switzerland) and freshman Matt Himmelsbach (Longmeadow, Mass.) prevailed over Tim Koch and Matt McDaniel, with the closest score of the morning, 8-4.
At third doubles, Landon Greene (Palos Verde, Switzerland) and Antonio Oliver (Madrid, Spain) bested Dan D'Agostino and Jamie Russo, 8-3.
Switching to singles, Sessagesimi recorded the days most impressive performance. He held J. Norton Pierce at love at second singles. Sessagesimi took the match 6-0, 6-0.
Sophomore Marcus von Nordheim (Munich, Germany) and Greene held their own at fourth and fifth singles respectively. Greene defeated Russo and von Nordheim beat D'Agostino. Their scores were an identical 6-1, 6-1.
As a team, out of a possible 30 matches played in singles in the MAAC this season, only one has gone to three sets, with Marist winning each match, regardless of the number of sets played.
Marist now, 6-2 overall, will host Army on Tuesday, April 7. First serves are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion. Earlier this spring, the two teams met in a hidden dual match at West Point, with the Red Foxes winning eight of nine matches contested.
