POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist junior diver Brian Bolstad (Highland, N.Y.) broke his own school record on the 1-meter board as he won both diving events in a 172.50-117.50 dual meet loss to the University of Maryland-Baltimore County at the McCann Center Natatorium on Sunday. Bolstad's score of 322.87 surpassed the old record of 319.50, which Bolstad set only eight days earlier in a meet at Southern Connecticut. Senior Mitchell Katz (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) gave Marist a sweep of the top two spots in diving events, finishing second on both the 1- and 3-meter boards.
It was the second straight year that Bolstad and Katz took the top two spots in both diving events against UMBC. They also accomplished the feat during last year's 162-127 loss in Baltimore.
Bolstad's win improved his record to 9-0 this season in the 3-meter dive. He has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's Diver of the Week five times this season.
UMBC won the first 12 men's swimming events in the 16-event lineup. For the day, the Retrievers won each event in which they competed for points.
The Red Foxes host Seton Hall next Saturday, Jan. 30 at noon. Prior to the start of the meet, the Marist Department of Athletics will host Senior Day.
