Campbell Interview with Lindsay Liquori - Courtesy Cable 6
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist head women's lacrosse coach Laura Campbell appeared on the Time Warner Cable 6 broadcast of Tuesday's women's basketball game on "Friends of Jaclyn Night." The interview took place during the women's basketball team's 73-56 victory over Niagara in the McCann Center.
Campbell briefly told the story of how she became inspired to get involved with Friends of Jaclyn. She also shares her first-hand experience, as the women's lacrosse team adopted Carolyn Sullivan of Pearl River, N.Y., in September.
The women's lacrosse team was the first program at Marist to adopt a child through the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. After an eight month wait, the team welcomed Sullivan as a member of its squad on Saturday, Sept. 12. Sadly, she passed away a few weeks later.
The women's basketball team raised $1,330 for the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation during Tuesday night's event.
About Friends of Jaclyn
The Foundation was inspired by Jaclyn Murphy, who was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor, in March 2004 when she was nine years old. Jaclyn's strength and courage, relentless spirit, and joy for life are an inspiration to those who know her. Jaclyn's wish is "for all the children in the hospitals to be healed."
It is their goal for Jaclyn to be able to continue to touch people with her smile, her kind heart, her hope and faith that someday there will be a cure! In the meantime, it is their hope that through Jaclyn's example, they can help to improve the lives of other children and families dealing with pediatric cancer.
Over 190 kids have been adopted in 19 different sports since the foundation was started. Currently there are 1,200 teams on the waiting list to adopt a child which span across NCAA Divisions' I, II, and III, in addition to high school and professional teams.
