POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's swimming and diving team won five individual events and two relays but suffered a 151-149 setback at the hands of the Rider Broncs on Saturday afternoon in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) meet. Senior diver Brian Bolstad (Highland, N.Y.) won both diving events and classmates Steven Vendetta (South Windsor, Conn.) and Keith Miller (Missolua, Mont.) and freshman Nick Spinella (Franklin Square, N.Y.) all posted wins in the meet.
Bolstad took the 3-meter board with approximately a nine-point victory. He totaled 293.17 points in the event. In the 1-meter diving event, he scored 287.92 points to take the board. He scored 18 points for Marist (0-2, 0-1 MAAC) in the meet.
The Red Foxes began the meet with a victory in the 200-yd. medley relay. The foursome of Spinella, sophomore Patrick Geraghty (Holyoke, Mass.) and senior Joshua Sklanka (Watertown, Conn.) claimed the event with a time of 1:38.67.
In event six, the 200-yd. freestyle, Vendetta and sophomore Stephen Miller (Downington, Pa.) swept the top two spots with times of 1:46.05 and 1:47.17 respectively.
Marist took the top three places in the 50-yd. freestyle. Keith Miller, Sklanka and freshman Alex Lombardi (Branford, Conn.) took first second and third in that order. Miller touched with a time of 22.24, Sklanka just behind Miller with a mark of 22.45 and Lombardi rounded out the field for Marist with a final time of 22.69.
Spinella followed his relay victory with a triumph in the men's 200-yd. backstroke. He swam to a final time of 1:56.48. Sophomore Thomas Byrnes (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) finished third and fourth respectively in the event.
The Red Foxes will return to the McCann Center Natatorium on Sat. Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. Marist will play host to Fairfield in a MAAC dual meet.
