POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's swimming and diving team picked up its first dual meet victory of the season on Saturday afternoon. The Red Foxes notched a 161-125 win over Fairfield in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) dual meet at the McCann Center Natatorium on Saturday.
Three Red Foxes were double-winners on the afternoon. Senior Steven Vendetta (South Windsor, Conn.) won the 1,000- and 200-yd. freestyle, freshman Brian Bolstad (Highland, N.Y.) continued his dominance of the MAAC with a sweep of the 1- and 3-meter diving events.
Vendetta won back-to-back individual events to open the meet. He placed first in the 1,000-yd. freestyle with a time of 10:08.20. Vendetta returned to the pool just minutes later and won the 200-yd. freestyle with a time of 1:49.46.
Spinella took first place in the 100-yd.backstroke with a time of 54.05 seconds. He also won the 100-yd. butterfly with a time of 54.37 seconds.
Bolstad easily handled the diving events for Marist. He first won the 3-meter board by over 120 points. Bolstad scored 345.97 points. He was followed by freshman Sean Malloy (Slingerlands, N.Y.) took second with a score of 222.15. Later in the meet, Bolstad and Malloy finished first and second respectively on the 1-meter board. Bolstad totaled 290.32 points, while Malloy wrapped up second place with a score of 247.50.
Marist (1-2, 1-1 MAAC) also got wins from freshman Patrick Geraghty (Holyoke, Mass.) in the 200-yd. butterfly, senior Keith Miller (Missoula, Mont.) in the 100-yd. freestyle, classmate Joshua Sklanka (Watertown, Conn.) and sophomore Stephen Miller (Downington, Pa.) in the 500-yd. freestyle.
The Red Foxes will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. in Vestal, N.Y. Marist will take on Binghamton in a dual meet.
