POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist Athletics Department in conjunction with the Red Fox Club and the Mid-Hudson Road Runners Club will host the inaugural "Red Fox Trot 5K" on Saturday, September 11, 2010. All proceeds from this race will benefit all Marist student-athletes, who compete in 23 Division I athletic programs.

The 2010 Red Fox Trot 5K will be under the direction of Red Fox Club member Eileen Sylvia. Sylvia has been a part of the Red Fox Club for three years and a member of the Mid-Hudson Road Runners Club for over 20 years.

"With two very popular running clubs in the area, the Mid-Hudson Road Runners and Onteora Running Clubs, and the proximity of Marist to other colleges and high schools, as well as a very enthusiastic local running community, I have no doubt this race will be a success," Sylvia said. "This race will give the Hudson River Valley community an opportunity to run an off-road race on the beautiful, river-side campus of Marist College."

This event is open to the public and runners of all levels are welcome. The race, which will be held completely on campus, will start and finish at Marist's Historic Cornell Boathouse. Campus roads will be closed to vehicular traffic during the race to allow for a safer route.

Along the five-kilometer course, runners will pass many Marist landmarks including Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field, the James A. Cannavino Library and the newly constructed Hancock Center.

All race participants will receive two tickets to a select Marist men's or women's basketball game during the 2010-11 season. The first 200 runners that register will also receive an official Red Fox Trot 5K long sleeve T-shirt.

The race fee is $15 for pre-registration and $20 on the day of the race. Marist College faculty, staff and students will receive a special discounted rate of $10 and must register in person at the McCann Center with Athletics Administrative Assistant Janet Davis to receive the discount.

Runners can access the Red Fox Trot 5K race brochure by using the link at the top of this page. Participants can register online via the Mid-Hudson Road Runners Club website at http://www.mhrrc.org/ or by mailing in the race application (which can be found in the race brochure) along with a $15 check made payable to Marist Athletics.

The race committee is also seeking corporate partners who would be interested in sponsoring the race. For more information about race sponsorship, please contact Assistant Athletics Director Frank Lombardy at Frank.Lombardy@marist.edu.
