Marist Water Polo Stymied 13-11 By Bucknell; 10-7 By Cal State Northridge

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Marist water polo team lost a pair of games Wednesday night, by scores of 13-11 to Bucknell and 10-7 by host Cal State Northridge. Senior Katherine Farley (Wilton, Conn.) added three goals on the evening for the Red Foxes.

In a rematch of the seventh place game at the ECAC Championships in Lewisburg, Pa. on Feb. 27, Marist and Bucknell were not strangers to one another, and it showed Wednesday evening. The two teams shared goals back-and-forth for the duration of the first half, as both teams scored three goals in each of the first two quarters and entered halftime deadlocked in a 6-6 tie. The Red Foxes outscored the Bison 3-2 in the third quarter and entered the fourth quarter with a 9-8 lead. Bucknell fired back in the fourth quarter, scoring five goals to Marist's two, and claimed the 13-11 victory.

Konopka's three goals were supplemented by two tallies from Farley, and one goal by six other Red Foxes: Pauli, who scored here 30th goal for the third consecutive season, Kirsten Siegel (San Diego, Calif.), Alexis Solaro (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) made 10 saves, while Puccino made four steals and sophomore Shelby Rinker (Lansdale, Pa.) grabbed three steals of her own.

In game two, the Red Foxes found themselves in yet another tight match. Despite falling behind 2-1 after one quarter of play, both teams scored four goals in the second quarter to give the Matadors a 6-5 advantage at the half. Marist tied the game in the third quarter, outscoring Cal State Northridge by a 2-1 margin, and entered the fourth quarter all nodded up at 7-7. The Matadors shut out the Red Foxes 3-0 in the final quarter to win the game by a 10-7 clip.

Pauli led Marist with two goals as Konopka, Farley, Desaulniers, Chavez and Kline added one goal apiece. Rinker recorded three steals for the second time on the night, and assisted on two of Marist's goals.

The Red Foxes will travel to Riverside, Calif. and play doubleheaders on March 18-19 in the Lancer Invitational. On Friday March 18, Marist will take on California Baptist at 4:30 p.m. and Pacific at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time. The Red Foxes will conclude the Lancer Invitational on Saturday, March 19 with a doubleheader against Concordia (Calif.) and Pomona-Pitzer. Game times are set for 12 and 2:30 p.m. Eastern time.
