Water Polo Falls Twice On Day One Of Lancer Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Marist water polo team was defeated 8-6 by California Baptist and 12-5 by Pacific in day one action at the Lancer Invitational. Senior Katherine Farley (Wilton, Conn.) each scored twice on the day.

In the first game of the day, Marist fell victim to a slow start, resulting in a 5-0 deficit at halftime. The Red Foxes battled back in the second half, outscoring California Baptist 2-1 in the third quarter and 4-2 in the fourth quarter. Despite the second half rally, the comeback fell short as California Baptist went on to win 8-6.

Pauli and Konopka each scored two goals for Marist, as Farley and sophomore Shelby Rinker (Lansdale, Pa.) added one goal apiece.

In game two, the Red Foxes fell behind 2-1 after one quarter of play, and then were outscored 4-1 in each of the following two quarters. Trailing 10-3 entering the final quarter, Marist and Pacific each found the back of the net two times, arriving at the final score of 12-5.

Marist goals were scored by five different players, including Pauli, Farley, junior Alexis Solaro (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) made seven saves for the Red Foxes.

The Red Foxes will conclude their West Coast road trip and the Lancer Invitational tomorrow with games against Concordia (Calif.) and Pomona-Pitzer. Game times are set for 12 and 2:30p.m. eastern time.
