EDISON, N.J. - Red-shirt junior left-hander Chad Gallagher (Southboro, Mass.) of the Marist baseball team was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Gallagher tossed a nine-inning complete game shutout in Marist's 4-0 home victory over Niagara on April 30.
In his shutout performance, Gallagher allowed just six hits and one walk while striking out six. He faced just four batters over the minimum, and threw just 98 pitches, 66 of which went for strikes. Niagara did not have a runner reach third base in the entire game, and the Purple Eagles only had two batters reach safely in one inning. He became the first Red Fox to toss a nine-inning complete game shutout since Lucas Robinson did it at Fairfield on March 28, 2004. The game took just 1 hour, 21 minutes to complete.
On the season, Gallagher has a record of 7-2 with a 2.82 ERA in 76.2 innings pitched. His win total is tied for first in the MAAC.
The Marist baseball team (29-13 overall, 9-9 MAAC) will return to action on Tuesday, when the Red Foxes travel to Brown for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2 p.m.
