BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – The Marist water polo team scored 31 goals, 12 of which were scored by Jessica Hamby (Sacramento, Calif.) in a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) wins on Saturday. The Red Foxes (23-10, 9-1 MAAC) defeated VMI 17-5 before beating Siena 14-6.
GAME ONE: MARIST 17 – VMI 5
Hamby and Yuriria Chavez (Chicago, Ill.) each scored five goals to lead the offense. Chavez had a team-high seven points as she also added two assist. Shelby Rinker (Lansdale, Pa.) had six assists and Robyn Crabtree (Cutler Bay, Fla.) and Anna-Lena Hathaway (Pasadena, Calif.) each had four points.
Hathaway had a team-high six steals while Brooke Else (Lansdale, Pa.) had five. Hamby and Crabtree each added four as Marist totaled 29 steals as a team. Rebecca Thomas (Cape Town, South Africa) made four saves and a steal while playing the first half in net. Skyler Henry (San Diego, Calif.) made two saves and Elise Humphries (Anaheim, Calif.) made one as each played a quarter in the second half.
GAME TWO: MARIST 14 – SIENA 6
Hamby bested her performance from earlier in the day, scoring a career-high seven goals and adding an assist while also drawing five ejections. Else had two goals, two assists and five steals, her second straight game with five thefts. Chavez had four points on a goal and three assists and Crabtree and Ellie Hoffman (Pasadena, Calif.) each had three points. Thomas made five saves in three quarters in net while Henry made four fourth quarter saves.
The Red Foxes outscored Siena 7-3 in each half, including 4-1 in the fourth quarter.
Marist will close out its regular season on Sunday at Wagner. The Red Foxes will look to clinch the MAAC Regular Season Championship with a pair of wins as they will play Villanova at 9 a.m. and Wagner at 4:30 p.m.
