PHILADELPHIA – The Marist women's crew program participated in the esteemed Dad Vails Regatta on Friday and Saturday. The Red Foxes had boats in three events, with the Varsity Eight squad highlighting the weekend by advancing to Saturday's semifinals.
The Varsity Eight raced to a second-place finish in its heat, crossing the finish line in 6:53.515. The Red Foxes beat out boats from Villanova and St. Joseph's by less than three seconds to finish second and advance to the next level.
Marist then won its Rep race to advance to Saturday's semifinals. The Red Foxes won in a time of 7:03.677, beating the boat from Lehigh by just a second and a half.
In Saturday's semifinal race, Marist placed fifth in a time of 7:19.168. The Red Foxes were just six seconds from qualifying for the Petite Final.
The JV Eight boat failed to reach the finals after finishing fifth in its heat in a time of 7:18.835.
Varsity Four finished fifth in its heat in a time of 7:38.35, nearly 11 seconds ahead of the boat from Army. However, the Red Foxes did not advance to the semifinals.
Marist will next compete in the 2013 NCAA Rowing Championship May 31 – June 2 in Indianapolis. The Red Foxes received an automatic bid by winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships on April 27. It was the first automatic bid in conference history.
