POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Senior Ken Walshak (Babylon, N.Y.) and sophomore Kristen Traub (Wayne, N.J.) each won their respective races to lead the Marist men's and women's cross country teams to a sweep of the Marist Invitational on Saturday morning at Bowdoin Park. Following the races, the Red Foxes celebrated its senior class in a Senior Day ceremony.
Walshak crossed the finish line in a time of 16:35.84, more than seven seconds ahead of the next runner. Overall, Marist took the top three spots in the men's race and seven of the top 10 finishers were Red Foxes. Sophomore Johnny Lee (Wading River, N.Y.) finished second and senior Ryan Scrudato (Westfield, N.J.) took third.
Traub ran away from the field, finishing more than 23 seconds ahead of anybody else and crossing the finish line in 19:21.08. Marist had six runners take spots in the top 10 in the women's race, including a third place finish for sophomore Michelle Gaye (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and freshman Janelle Solviletti (Arlington, Mass.) took fourth in her first collegiate race.
Both men's and women's programs will next run in the Wolfie Invitational at Stony Brook on Saturday, Sept. 14.
