BRONX, N.Y. – The Marist men's and women's cross country teams put in good showings on Saturday at the annual Iona College Meet of Champions. The race was held at Van Cortlandt Park, the site of the 2013 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships in November and as well as the NCAA Northeast Regionals and ECAC/IC4A Championships.
The women's race featured a six-kilometer course. For the third time in as many races, sophomore Kristen Traub (Wayne, N.J.) was the Red Foxes top finisher, crossing the finish line in 23:24.22, good for 15th place overall. Michelle Gaye (Greenlawn, N.Y.) was right behind her in 27th, finishing in 23:40.49. Overall, the Marist women came in 11th place out of 20 programs.
The men's race was a five-mile course and also featured 20 programs. The Red Foxes were led by Ryan Scrudato (Westfield, N.J.) who was the first Marist runner to cross the finish line, doing so in 26:56.80 and placing 65th overall. Ken Walshak (Babylon, N.Y.) was just eight seconds behind Scrudato, finishing 76th in 27:04.75.
Marist is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh. Racing will start at 9:45 a.m.
