Marist Red Fox Club Hosts Fifth Annual Red Fox Trot 5K Run/Walk

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The fifth annual Marist Red Fox Trot 5K drew a total of 220 finishers to the Marist College campus on Saturday, Sept. 6. The race, which was sponsored by the Red Fox Club in conjunction with the Mid-Hudson Road Runners Club, incorporated many facets of the Hudson River Valley campus, including the Route 9 Pedestrian Walkway.

Both the male and female overall winners were Marist cross country/track & field alumni. On the men's side, Girma Segni crossed the finish line with a time of 16:06.03, to become the third different winner in the five races run. The women's overall winner was Katie Messina with a time of 19:10.74

The racecourse, which was designed by Marist Director of Men's and Women's Cross Country Pete Colaizzo, was contained completely on the campus of Marist College. The race started and finished on the east bank of the Hudson River at Marist's Historic Cornell Boathouse. The challenging route incorporated both the west and east sides of the Marist campus. Runners entered the east side of campus by way of the Route 9 Pedestrian Walkway, a course element that is new to this year's race and a unique characteristic to any 5K in the area.

All runners received an official Marist Red Fox Trot 5K t-shirt and two tickets to the Marist football game against Bucknell on Sept. 6. The Marist College Band, under the direction of Art Himmelberger, played a variety of songs at the start and finish of the race.

All proceeds from the race will directly benefit the 23 Division I athletic programs at Marist College. The Marist Athletics Department would like thank all the event coordinators, volunteers and participants that made the Marist Red Fox Trot 5k such a success.
