Red Foxes Lose To Fordham In 2015-16 Home Opener

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist women's swimming and diving team fell to 1-1 on the young 2015-16 season, losing to the Fordham Rams, 163-80, on Oct. 22 in McCann Natatorium.
Sophomore Shannon Gordon took first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle by 0.29 seconds, coming in just ahead of Rams sophomore Erin McBride. Senior Bethany Powhida won the 200-yard backstroke after clocking in at 1:55.02 and was the anchor of Marist's second place 400-yard freestyle relay team.
In the freestyle events, junior Meredith Wurtz finished second at 50 yards (24.54 seconds) and third at 100 yards (54.11 seconds). She also anchored the Red Foxes' second place 400-yard medley relay squad that kicked off the meet with a second-place finish.
On the diving boards, senior Renata Diotalevi qualified for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at three meters and took second place with 268.12 points. She racked up 230.77 points in the 1-meter event for third place. Freshman Lauren Katz also followed up with a strong performance, finishing second at one meter (232.72 points) and third at three meters (237.60 points).
The Red Foxes will face off against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Fairfield at 6 p.m. Nov. 6. The evening contest will be the only conference dual meet in McCann Natatorim for Marist in 2015-16.
