BRONX, New York -- The Marist Women's Cross Country team capped off their season in style with a first place finish in the ECAC Championships on Saturday, Nov. 21st at Van Cortlandt Park. The victory marks the second time the Red Foxes won the ECAC University Division Championship, with the other coming in 2009. Despite being without two of their runners in Kristen Traub and Janelle Solviletti due to injury, Marist was able to improve over last year's fourth place finish and bring home the victory.
Mara Schiffhauer led the pack with an overall time of 18:39.6, good for a seventh place finish. Right behind her was Nicki Nesi with a time of 18:40 and an eighth place finish and Emily Burns who finished with a final time of 18:48.7, good for a 12th place finish. Elizabeth Wasserman finished 19th overall with a time of 19:00.8. All four runners were named to the ECAC All East team.
“Our women overcame a lot during this championship season and today's win validated all the great effort they have put in for the past three months" said Director of Cross Country Pete Colaizzo. "As a coaching staff, we are humbled and proud of them.”
