POUGHKEEPSIE, NEW YORK – Senior captain Matteo Giudici (Parma, Italy) earned his 100th victory as the Marist men's tennis team beat the rain and came away with a 5-0 win over Hofstra, Tuesday afternoon at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion.
The two teams were only able to play singles matches before rain suspended play but the Red Foxes took down Hofstra in five of the six singles matches with only one singles match not reaching a finish.
Senior Joseph Dube (Livonia, Mich.) led off the day with a straight set victory over Hofstra's Ricky Hendler, 6-2, 6-0 and then Giudici followed up with his career mark as he defeated Leonardo Pires, 6-0, 6-2 to cap off a tremendous accomplishment.
Jan Dernic (Koper, Slovenia) also earned a straight set singles victory and freshman Rudolf Kurz (Oberpullendorf, Austria) clinched the win for the Red Foxes as he defeated Ari Richman, 7-6, 6-0.
With the win men's tennis now improves to 9-6 on the season and are riding a four match winning streak.The Red Foxes are back to conference play as they take on Quinnipiac at home on April 7 at 3 P.M.
